Rolling Stone – Erebor/Dale Edition

This remarkable document turned up in a milk crate of old LP’s at Out Of Time Records, in Ipswich, Suffolk, UK.

The object had been deliberately inserted into the sleeve of Neil Diamond’s magnificent double LP, “Hot August Night”, perhaps in an attempt to hide it from smugglers and thieves; after all the illicit trade in Middle-earth artefacts is thriving. Maybe the former owner just loved Neil Diamond and Dwarvish rock, and who can fault them for that.

The magazine wasn’t in that bad a state when I found it, surprising for it’s age.

It’s an amazing feeling to find such a special document. How has it survived all this time? Perhaps the Tolkien experts at the Palaeography department at Illawarra University (where the original document now resides) will be able to shed some light in coming years.

Coming soon – the magical digital restoration.
